Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice now open in Manly 

The Manly Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice (AYAH) is Australia’s first dedicated service for young people with life-limiting illness. The service provides 15 to 24-year-old patients in NSW with respite care, symptom management, end-of-life care, and step down from an acute hospital prior to discharge home.

Admission criteria

For admission to the AYAH the patient must:

  • Live in NSW;
  • Be referred by a medical practitioner;
  • Be aged 15 to 24 years;
  • Have a life-limiting illness;
  • Have a clearly identified medical specialist/practitioner who is responsible for their care co-ordination prior to admission to the AYAH and who will accept their care again after they have been discharged from the AYAH; and:

Require any of the following:

  • Respite care
  • Complex symptom management
  • End-of-life care
  • Step down from an acute hospital prior to
  • Discharge home
