HIV Testing Week 2021

2 June 2021

HIV

HIV Testing Week 2021 is during the first week of June, providing an opportunity to normalise regular HIV testing, even in the current context of COVID-19.

We are encouraging health professionals to make offering HIV testing a standard part of routine practice and comprehensive sexual health screening in a range of population groups – such as heterosexual men and women, culturally and linguistically diverse communities and overseas-born men who have sex with men.

As recognised in the new NSW HIV Strategy 2021-2025, there is a renewed focus on HIV testing for these populations groups, with general practices and primary care services being a key setting for increased testing. Early diagnosis and treatment uptake means that it is now possible to live a long and healthy life with HIV.

A useful resource to support HIV Testing in general practice and other primary care services is the Online STI & HIV Testing Tool.
