Since CESPHN launched the Initial Assessment and Referral Decision Support Tool (IAR-DST) training in October 2022, over 50 CESPHN GPs have been trained. This is a great start to the CESPHN implementation which aims to train a large proportion of local GPs and other mental health clinicians in the region by the end of 2023.
What is IAR-DST?
To recap, IAR-DST is an online tool that can be used by GPs and other mental health clinicians to guide referral of patients to appropriate mental health services across 5 levels of care. GPs are often the gateway to other mental health services and supports for patients, however it is also important for others working in the mental health space to be familiar with the IAR-DST for referral purposes and to encourage adoption of the “IAR language”.
How does it help?
Widespread training and use of the tool will provide a consistent, standardized and transparent process across the sector, providing benefits for both patients and clinicians. For this reason, we are excited to announce that we are opening up the IAR training to GPs, practice nurses and allied health professionals within CESPHN, starting 9 February 2023.
Who can use it?
GPs and GP registrars who complete the training and associated evaluation activities will be eligible to receive a one-off payment and RACGP CPD hours for Education Activities and Reviewing Performance under the new CPD structure.
Want to receive training?
Currently all training sessions are held via Zoom, however if your practice is interested in organizing in-house training, please be in touch with the team using the contact form below and this can be arranged.
