Maternal influenza vaccination in 2023
The webinar recording for Maternal influenza vaccination in 2023 is now available. This webinar discusses the importance of maternal vaccination and role of healthcare professionals in supporting uptake of vaccination.
Estimates of vaccination coverage indicate uptake could be improved, and influenza vaccination should be offered to all pregnant woman as part of routine, comprehensive, antenatal care.
The event was held on 11 July 2023 and hosted by the Australian Medical Association (AMA) in partnership with DOH, ACM and RANZCOG.
2023 influenza vaccines well tolerated by pregnant people
This flu season, AusVaxSafety collected data from over 1,400 pregnant individuals participating in vaccine safety surveillance and findings indicate that 80% experienced no side effects within three days of receiving the flu vaccine.
Among those who did experience side effects (20%), common symptoms like local reactions, fatigue, muscle/joint pain, and headache were observed across all flu vaccine brands.
The impact on daily activities was minimal, with only 5% reporting missed work or routine duties, and the percentage seeking medical attention after vaccination was very low at 0.4%.
