Measles alert for Sydney

On 28 February 2024, NSW Health released a Measles alert advising people to be alert for signs and symptoms of measles after being notified of a confirmed case of measles in western Sydney. The case is an infant, who was too young to be vaccinated, and recently returned from south Asia where there have been ongoing outbreaks of measles in several countries.

Providers are encouraged to review the NSW General Practitioner: Measles information sheet which outlines measles presentation, suspected case management and measles vaccination advice. See also the measles pathway for full management details: South Eastern Sydney or Sydney HealthPathway.

NCIRS Annual Immunisation Coverage Report

NCIRS recently published their Annual Immunisation Coverage Report 2022 report which examines the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic and related public health measures on vaccine coverage in Australia. It includes data on fully vaccinated coverage assessed at the standard age milestones of 12, 24 and 60 months and the earlier milestones of 9, 15, 21 and 51 months by PHN, highlighting the ongoing issue of timeliness of vaccination, which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Read Summary report and Full report.

AusVaxSafety Summary report

AusVaxSafety is a national system monitoring vaccine safety in Australia. The summary report published 23 February 2024 shows how people receiving vaccines, or their parents and carers, responded to the SMS about their health a few days after vaccination at each schedule point in the National Immunisation Program in Australia 2022.
