New standard released – AS 5369:2023

Reprocessing of reusable medical devices and other devices in health and non-health related facilities

Are you currently reprocessing medical devices in your practice?

Did you know the new standard for Reprocessing of reusable medical devices was released in December 2023.

AS 5369:2023 specifies the requirements and practices necessary for the effective and safe reprocessing, storage, handling and transportation of reusable medical devices and other devices used in human health care and other treatments.

Practices that reuse medical devices that require sterilisation, such as surgical instruments, can choose either to do all reprocessing on site, or outsource to an off-site provider (e.g. hospital) for sterilisation. Reprocessing of items that require sterilisation should only occur within the practice if the current relevant standard can be met.
