Education Opportunities

CESPHN and the St George Hospital Integrated Care Chronic Disease Working Party bring you a Grand Round series as part of the St George Hospital education program for Practice Nurses. The Integrating Care Education program is an opportunity for hospital based CNCs and Practice Nurses to meet in a forum to collaborate and discuss patient needs, improve access to care and support people to live well in the community.

NEW Resource:  Sleep and asthma information for health professionals

Asthma is one of many health conditions associated with poor sleep.

Asthma symptoms can disrupt sleep, while sleep disturbances can impair asthma control and quality of life.

The National Asthma Council Australia has released a new resource outlining key points to help treat patients who present with poor asthma control and sleep disturbance.

Are you a new nurse working in general practice?

Our practice support team are available to provide you with a Practice Nurse orientation session which includes a copy of our Practice Nurse Resource Guide.

We can also provide you with ongoing support to help you learn and succeed in your new role.

These sessions can either be an in general practice or a virtual visit.

HealthPathways for Practice Nurses

HealthPathways is a free web-based information portal to support primary care clinicians to plan and manage patient care. The platform contains concise and locally-adapted pathways, for use during a consultation, to help navigate community and hospital services and provide the best health outcome for patients. This resource is available to locally registered healthcare providers.

Central and Eastern Sydney PHN covers two HealthPathways regions:

  1.  South Eastern Sydney – which covers referral options for South Eastern Sydney LHD services including Sutherland, St George, Prince of Wales/Royal Hospital for Women, St Vincents Hospital and Sydney Children’s Hospital network
  2.  Sydney – which covers referral options for Sydney LHD services including RPA, Concord, Canterbury, and Balmain hospitals.

Palliative Care Masterclass Program

Register now for this free Palliative Care Masterclass Program.

Most people prefer to be cared for and die at home. This free Masterclass Program aims to make this possible by empowering nurses working in key settings of general practice, aged care and home care, to develop the knowledge and skills essential for the delivery of quality person-centred palliative care.

The free Palliative Care Masterclass Program will be delivered by palliative care clinical experts from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Faculty of Health, Centre for Improving Palliative, Aged and Chronic Care through Clinical Research and Translation (IMPACCT).

Nurse scholarship opportunity: Benchmarque Group’s 2024 Immunisation Professional Development Conference

CESPHN is offering a scholarship opportunity for nurses who are employed at a general practice in our region to attend a two-day conference held in Mascot on the 1st and 2nd May 2024.

The conference aims to deliver a blend of hands-on skills-based workshops, and updates from experts in the field. Content will include COVID and the changing focus in primary healthcare, managing RSV in primary healthcare settings, NIP and priority populations, vaccine hesitancy, culturally safe practice in immunisation, vaccine strategies and promotions, travel vaccine sand complex catch-ups.

Introducing the National Mental Health Pathways to Practice Program

APNA’s new Commonwealth-funded six-month program offers FREE mentoring and peer support for registered nurses new to working in mental health. APNA is also looking for experienced nurses to become paid mentors. Applications close on 5 April 2024. Visit APNA’s website to find out more and apply!
