RPA Virtual Fracture Clinic

Fracture 1

The rpavirtual Virtual Fracture Clinic (VFC) is a physiotherapy led service using telehealth to manage patients with clinically and radiologically diagnosed simple fractures.

GPs within the Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) can refer directly to this publicly funded free service, to prevent unnecessary Emergency Department (ED) or in-person fracture clinic presentations.

GPs can access the latest referral information via HealthPathways Sydney or can refer to the VFC directly via email to SLHD-rpavirtualMSK@health.nsw.gov.au.

Eligible patients must be aged over 2 years old and reside within NSW during time of virtual consultation.

The clinic accepts acute (less than 6 weeks old), simple and minimally displaced fractures, of:

  • Metatarsal, including base of 5th.
  • Tarsal avulsion
  • Weber A/ lateral malleolus avulsion
  • Toe
  • Radial head/ neck
  • Triquetral avulsion
  • Clavicle
  • AC Joint injury (Grade 1/2)
  • Paediatric forearm buckle

The clinic does not accept:

  • Open or unstable fractures requiring surgery or plaster.
  • All hand/ finger injuries except triquetral avulsion
  • Distal radius fractures
  • Spinal conditions
  • Neurovascular or skin compromise over fracture site
  • Sub-acute or chronic injuries (>6 weeks)

All referrals are screened by an Orthopaedic Doctor prior to enrolment into the service. Patients are then contacted by an rpavirtual physiotherapist within 72 hours of receiving the referral to organise an appointment via video or phone call.
