Accreditation – RACGP (5th edition) Standards – do you need support?

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) developed the Standards for general practices (5th edition) with the purpose of protecting patients from harm by improving the quality and safety of health services.

The Standards also support general practices in identifying and addressing any gaps in their systems and processes.

The accreditation cycle is three years.

This means that if your practice achieves accreditation against these Standards, the accreditation is valid for the remainder of the three-year cycle in which you achieved accreditation.

To maintain your accreditation, you must be successfully reassessed for the next accreditation cycle.

Central and Eastern Sydney (CESPHN) is committed to supporting general practices in the region in reaching their accreditation goals.

Our Practice Support and Development team provide assistance to general practices to achieve accreditation or re-accreditation by:

· Providing support on meeting and understanding the RACGP 5th edition Accreditation Standards

· Supporting on key aspects of accreditation including infection control, sterilisation, cold chain management practice management, risk management and much more.

· Working with practices on a tailored support plan and timeline.

· Provision of templates and resources.

· Provision of phone and online support.

· Providing practice visits and mock accreditation visits

Ideally, it is best to commence your journey on accreditation at least 12-18 months prior to your accreditation survey visit to ensure all requirements are met.

If your practice is going through Accreditation for the first time, or are re-accrediting and you would like support, please contact the Practice Support and Development team at
