LGBTIQ+ HEALTH

General practitioners are crucial in delivering first-contact, continuous care for LGBTIQ+ patients, many of whom face unique barriers in accessing healthcare. At CESPHN, we are committed to building the capacity of GPs to provide inclusive, respectful, and responsive care.

We support ongoing professional development, offering training and resources that align with the NSW LGBTIQ+ Health Strategy 2022-2027.

By fostering an environment that promotes learning and inclusivity, we aim to equip GPs with the knowledge and tools to meet the diverse needs of LGBTIQ+ individuals.

Strengthening the capabilities of the primary care workforce will play a pivotal role in reducing disparities and improving health outcomes for this community.

Central and Eastern Sydney PHN co-fund a variety of services in the central and eastern Sydney region. We have developed a service directory to direct health professionals to the latest services in our region. Below is a link to our LGBTIQ+ services that will help support your patients health.

Becoming more LGBTQIA+ friendly in your practice OLM

CESPHN has co-funded the development and hosting of an Online Learning Module on the ThinkGP platform to increase the reach on scope of training for GPs to become more LGBTQIA+ friendly in their practice. This was co-funded with the Sexually Transmissible Infections in Gay Men Action Group, which has now disbanded, and the hosting of the module is due to expire in the coming months. On completion of this education activity participants will be able to explain the barriers that LGBTQIA+ people may face in accessing healthcare, and identify health disparities faced by LGBTQIA+ people, incorporate inclusive language and attitudes in your daily practice and more.
