What is it?
Quality Improvement (QI) refers to a continuous, systematic, team-based approach that leads to measurable improvements of processes, systems, safety and patient care in health care services and the health status of targeted patient groups.
Why do we need it?
QI forms the basis of high-performing primary care to improve healthcare quality and safety through adoption of the Quintuple Aim:
How is it done?
The RACGP standards for general practice indicate focusing on QI should be based on evidence produced from the practice’s own data. Using a clinical audit tool to extract data, information can be gathered to conduct data audit and analysis from the clinical database.
With this purpose in mind, Quality Improvement generally follows these simplified steps:
