There is a substantial shift towards earlier stage diagnosis and prevention of bowel cancer related deaths through participation in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP). A reduction in the number of bowel cancer cases and the number of deaths attributed to bowel cancer leads to reduced costs of treatment. To continue to reduce the incidence of bowel cancer and reduce health care costs, people require access to timely, high quality colonoscopy.

Over the past 18 months, SVHN has developed a DAC model which aims to reduce unnecessary delays for someone where the diagnosis-of-exclusion is now cancer. DAC enables patients who fulfil a set clinical criteria to attend once, on the day of their procedure without the need for a specialist consultation. In a DAC model, GP’s are often the first point of contact for a person following a positive iFOBT and are responsible for initiating the DAC journey for people by referring them directly into a DAC service.

Target audience: GPs and Practice Managers
