Vaccination providers are invited to join our Immunisation Working Group to share their valuable insights from a primary care perspective and provide ideas, feedback and suggestions on immunisation programs and strategies.

Why join?

In this group, you will be having discussions with immunisation colleagues from your local Public Health Unit, the CESPHN Immunisation team, and other primary care representatives working within your Local Health District. Primary care representatives include GP, nurse and pharmacist immunisers working in the CESPHN region, within a general practice setting or a community pharmacy.

If you are a GP, nurse, or pharmacist providing vaccination services in a general practice or community pharmacy, we encourage you to submit your expression of interest to join the group and share your valuable insights on vaccination in primary care.

What’s involved?

Roles and responsibilities include attending 2 online meetings (1.5 hours each) per year, participating in discussions and providing your perspective and feedback.

Representatives will be appointed, and be remunerated for their time, in accordance with the terms and conditions outlined in the EIS Representation Policy.

If you are interested in participating in our Immunisation Working Group, submit your expression of interest to join. Applications close 30 June 2025.

General practices are encouraged to register for three free GoShare vaccination recall programs. These programs use GoShare to send a personalised SMS from your practice to eligible patients to encourage them to book an appointment.

Registration for the program only takes 15 minutes. Practices can participate in all three programs but must register for each individually below.

DVA Veteran Gold Card holders and certain Veteran White Card holders (with specific medical conditions) are eligible to receive a heavily subsidised RSV vaccination under The Repatriation Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (RPBS) where clinically recommended.

GPs are required to get prior approval through one of the following methods:

  • HPOS secure form upload
  • Telephone on 1800 552 580 (24 hours a day)
  • Mail (see details on website)

Once approval is received, the RPBS script can be provided, and the vaccine can be dispensed for a cost of $7.70.

The two RSV vaccines registered for use in adults aged 60 and above are Abrysvo and Arexvy with no brand preference. However, only Abrysvo is to be used for pregnant women.

More than 60,000 pregnant women have received the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine Abrysvo® since the launch of the Australian Government’s free maternal RSV vaccination program in February of this year. The program has coincided with a substantial 40% drop in RSV cases in young children in Australia, from 45,838 cases between February and May 2024 to 27,921 cases during the same period in 2025.

In addition to the maternal vaccination program, the long-acting RSV monoclonal antibody nirsevimab is available for free to eligible infants under the NSW Health-funded program.

The Australian Government has released its new National Immunisation Strategy for 2025–2030 to guide Australia’s fight against vaccine-preventable diseases over the next five years. It sets a vision for a healthier Australia through immunisation, by reducing the impact of vaccine-preventable diseases through high uptake of safe, effective and equitable immunisation across the lifespan.

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing will work with states and territories to implement the strategy. See related resources here.
