MyMedicare – Services Australia updates to the Organisation Register in December
MyMedicare – Services Australia updates to the Organisation Register in December
Services Australia has advised there will be a system release for the Organisation Register on 9 December 2024, which will introduce the following changes:
Introduction of a new data field – Practice type
From December, all new practices registering in MyMedicare must select a practice type while completing the registration process. This is mandatory.
The practice type options are as below:
General Practice
Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service
Aboriginal Medical Service
Mobile Practice
Outreach Practice
Sole Provider Practice
Nurse Practitioner-led Practice with a GP
It is strongly recommended that currently registered practices also update the practice type in the Organisation Register.
Updates to accreditation details recorded on the Organisation Register
From December 2024, accreditation dates will be used to assess MyMedicare eligibility if the practice has an accredited status. Practices should ensure their accreditation details and dates are current and correct, to ensure MyMedicare eligibility is maintained. Practices have until 31 March 2025 to update or add this information. After this date, practices may no longer be eligible in MyMedicare, unless they have an accreditation exemption.
If practices need to update their accreditation status, when they receive a renewal and/or new certificate number, it is recommended to add a new line entry. Existing details should only be updated if corrections are being made. If the practice is working toward accreditation, this does not impact them.
However, if practices become accredited before the end of the 12-month period provided to attain accreditation, the accreditation status must be updated.
An accreditation exemption is available until 30 June 2025 for non-accredited practices (including sole providers) who deliver general practice services entirely through mobile and outreach models. If a practice has recorded their exemption status, no action is required and the exemption will continue to apply until 30 June 2025.
Services Australia has updated the resources available on the Health Professionals Education site to reflect these upcoming changes for accredited practices:
