Together We’re Better

Improving Health Outcomes for People with Intellectual disability

This workshop equips Supported Independent Living (SIL) Team Leaders and House Coordinators with knowledge and skills to assist their teams to support the health needs of clients with intellectual disability.

Disability service providers play a crucial role in promoting preventative health behaviours and supporting health interventions. Research shows that annual health assessments are more effective when initiated by the patient or their carer. However, the disability workforce is highly casualised, and providers often receive limited training and development funding. This workshop aims to bridge this gap by offering essential training and fostering collaboration between service providers and primary care.

This workshop is designed to equip team leaders with essential knowledge and skills to support their staff working with clients with intellectual disability. Key areas covered include:

  • Preventative Health: Understanding the importance of preventative health measures.
  • Collaborative Relationships: Building effective partnerships with primary care providers.
  • Annual Health Assessments: Supporting and facilitating Annual Health Assessments.
  • Palliative and End-of-Life Care: Providing support for clients with intellectual disability at the end of life.
