Suicide Prevention Collaboratives
There are three Suicide Prevention Collaboratives in the Central and Eastern Sydney PHN region: St George Suicide Prevention Collaborative, Inner West Suicide Prevention Collaborative, and Eastern Suburbs Suicide Prevention Collaborative.
St George Suicide Prevention Collaborative
The St George Suicide Prevention Collaborative was established as part of the NSW Community Collaboratives initiative that was led by headspace National and LifeLine Australia. The initiative helps to empower local communities which have been impacted by suicide deaths to come together to better respond to suicide. This means developing an Incident Communication Protocol and an action plan of strategies to help the community respond to postvention (support after a suicide), move towards recovery and return to suicide prevention.
The initiative focuses on all ages and stages of life, offering a whole of community approach by:
- Helping collaborators come together to address local needs and to formulate a comprehensive and compassionate response to suicide.
- Fostering stronger relationships among collaborators
- Instilling a powerful sense of community connection and hope
- Establishing suicide prevention strategies and support, and
- Encouraging the sharing of knowledge, learnings, resources, evidence-based interventions and referral pathways.

Inner West Suicide Prevention Collaborative
The Inner West Suicide Prevention Collaborative was first established by community members with a lived experience of suicide. The Collaborative consists of organisations and individuals operating, living or working across the Inner West and Sydney Local Health District region.
The Inner West Suicide Prevention Collaborative utilises their shared experiences across the community to enable the group to promote local services and improve the supports available to people at risk of suicide.
The Collaborative aims to reduce the impacts of suicide by:
- Bringing together key stakeholders of Sydney’s Inner West in a collective effort to establish activities and initiatives which will reduce the impact of suicide in the region
- Enhancing collaboration among services, key stakeholders, and the Inner West community
- Interagency knowledge exchange
- Improve supports available and advocate for service and system integration
- Build connections and relationships with the wider community and support community with capacity building
