South Eastern Sydney Public Health Unit is investigating a cluster of Legionella pneumophila cases in Potts Point.

Since late May three residents of Potts Point have been hospitalised with Legionnaires’ disease due to Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1.

The Public Health Unit is liaising with the City of Sydney to inspect and sample cooling water systems in Potts Point and nearby areas.

GPs are asked to remain alert for people who live or visit Potts Point presenting with fever, chills, myalgia and a new cough and if clinically appropriate request a chest Xray and Legionella urinary antigen.

Please call the Public Health Unit on 9382 8333 if you suspect Legionnaires’ disease in someone who has been in the Potts Point and surrounding areas.
