Our practice support team are available to provide you with a Practice Nurse orientation session which includes a copy of our Practice Nurse Resource Guide.
We can also provide you with ongoing support to help you learn and succeed in your new role.
These sessions can either be an in general practice or a virtual visit.

GP CanShare is a collaboration between Central and Eastern Sydney PHN, Sydney Local Health District, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and St Vincent’s Hospital with the aim of enhancing cancer management in primary care.
The project assists General Practices, community cancer services and specialist cancer services to work together in providing care for patients with cancer and improve their experience of the cancer system.
Cancer Institute NSW – ReadytoScreen trial to support lung cancer screening
From 1 July 2025, The National Lung Cancer Screening Program will begin. Eligible participants will need a referral from their GP to be screened. Early detection through screening is proven to significantly improve outcomes for patients at high risk of lung cancer.
The ReadytoScreen trial seeks to explore the most effective approaches for encouraging eligible patients to participate in lung cancer screening. It aims to examine how communication and information provided by a patient’s general practice can boost participation rates, as well as identify ways to better support practices in implementing the National Lung Cancer Screening Program.
Artificial intelligence (AI) tool diagnoses multiple diseases from one blood sample
A recent study has introduced an innovative AI tool capable of analyzing blood samples to detect infections, autoimmune diseases, and vaccine responses all at once. By examining genes that encode immune cell receptors, the algorithm was able to identify patients with conditions such as COVID-19, type 1 diabetes, lupus, and others.

Jean Hailes for Women’s Health are offering free courses in Menopause. Enhance your knowledge and discover the vital role nurses play in Menopause management. Developed in collaboration with clinical experts, these courses are available on the Jean Hailes for Women’s Health website.
Benchmarque Group – Managing Wounds in Primary Healthcare
Effective wound management is a complex, important and costly aspect of nursing that requires timely management for positive outcomes for the patient. Primary health clinicians play a key role in assessing and effectively managing a range of wound presentations. The Managing Wounds in Primary Health Care provides clinicians with an evidence based framework to assess, manage a variety of wounds while understanding the importance of client centred education and care.

Central and Eastern Sydney PHN is offering registered nurses working in general practice within the CESPHN region the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to attend one of four face-to-face educational workshops.
Successful applicants will receive scholarships covering up to 90% of the course fees.
The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care is seeking feedback from the general practice sector to share their views on potential changes to the accreditation cycle and assessment of general practices. Important changes being considered include extending the length of the accreditation cycle, the addition of a mid-cycle review, and short notice assessments.
Consultation is now open until Friday 4 April 2025.
