Practice Nurse Annual Forum Day – Saturday, 18 October 2025

New Resources – Managing Health Records

Keeping accurate and well-maintained health records is vital to ensuring ongoing quality care for patients.

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia has endorsed new guidance to help privately practising nurses and midwives who work independently to better understand and meet their health record management obligations.

These resources aim to help review and enhance health record management practices, ultimately supporting public safety.

Shortage of Bicillin L-A (benzathine benzylpenicillin tetrahydrate) prefilled syringe for injection

There are ongoing shortages of Bicillin L-A and Extencilline, which are impacting primary health care services, pharmacies and in rural and remote community health care. Updated information for registered nurses and midwives working in maternal, child and family health 

This fact sheet offers guidance for registered nurses and midwives who are looking to broaden their scope of practice to include roles in maternal, child, and family health.

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) acknowledges that delivering safe and effective care in these areas requires postgraduate-level knowledge and skills. Nurses and midwives are expected to be appropriately educated, clinically competent in their chosen field, and equipped to provide care that is safe, person-centred, and grounded in evidence-based practice.

APNA – Strengthening STI and BBV Prevention through Primary Nursing Practice

Research Study: Developing integrated care models for older adults with combined vision and hearing loss, and their family carers

The University of Sydney are conducting a research study about the impact of combined vision and hearing loss (also known as dual sensory impairment [DSI]) on older adults and the close family members who provide care.

Combined vision and hearing loss (dual sensory impairment [DSI]) is common in older age but can have major effects on wellbeing and social participation. Researchers at USyd are developing supportive social networks in this area.

Participants and carers will be remunerated @ $40 per hour of time

Primary Care Nursing and Midwifery Scholarship Program

The scholarships will enable registered nurses and midwives to undertake postgraduate study. The scholarships will support registered nurses to become nurse practitioners and midwives to be become endorsed midwives in the primary care and aged care health sector.
