Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) – Chronic Conditions Management e-Learning
Services Australia have now released e-Learning modules for GP Chronic Condition Management Plans including an overview of the program, case studies for different chronic diseases and an Infographic for Referred Allied Health Services. An updated infographic and e-Learning module is also available for Practice nurse MBS item numbers.

National Lung Cancer Screening Program – Guidelines Released
On 1 July, the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing published the National Lung Cancer Screening Program Guidelines to assist healthcare professionals in navigating each stage of the program, including the screening and assessment pathway.

Gap Analysis Tool for Reprocessing Reusable Equipment and Devices
The Reprocessing Reusable Medical Equipment Gap Analysis Tool, developed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, helps health organisations design and track their quality improvement plans in alignment with national and international standards, as well as manufacturers’ guidelines.

Upcoming Changes to the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) and Chronic Disease Management Framework Transition will come into effect from 1 July 2025
The Department of Health, Disability, and Ageing has introduced a new framework for chronic disease management, primarily impacting general practice. This update includes revisions to MBS item numbers, pricing, and guidelines. To ensure continued access to services, a two-year transition period has been established, allowing patients to adapt to these changes without disruption.

New Guidance on the Prescribing of Medicinal Cannabis
Ahpra and the National Boards have released guidance to help practitioners including Nurse Practitioners meet their obligations when prescribing medicinal cannabis to help reduce harm to patients.
The guidance advises prescribers to approach medicinal cannabis with the same level of care and diligence as they would with any other drug of dependence, reinforcing that it should be treated as a medicine.

Review of the Supervised Practice Framework
The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, together with other National Boards and Ahpra, is reviewing the Supervised Practice Framework—and your input is important.
How do you currently use the framework? What aspects work well, and where could it be improved? Is it flexible enough, or does it feel too restrictive? Are there any gaps that need to be addressed?

CESPHN – Responding to Child Sexual Abuse in Primary Care Webinar
With more than 1 in 3 girls and almost 1 in 5 boys experiencing CSA in Australia, CSA is a public health issue. It occurs across all demographics, commonly in the home and by adults known to children and young people. Child sexual abuse causes immense, ongoing pain and trauma that often impacts a child or young person across their entire lifespan. Child sexual abuse is a crime.
This webinar will cover recognising the signs of both current and historical child sexual abuse (CSA) and how to respond in a primary care setting and what referral pathways exist.

Primary Care Nursing and Midwifery Scholarship Program
The scholarships will enable registered nurses and midwives to undertake postgraduate study. The scholarships will support registered nurses to become nurse practitioners and midwives to be become endorsed midwives in the primary care and aged care health sector.
