External Events


CESPHN runs a full calendar of events which can be found on the Event Registration page. We also support external organisations who also run education and these events can be found below. If you would like to advertise on our external events page, please complete the online form. Once you have submitted the form, these will be reviewed and uploaded at our earliest opportunity and an email will be sent to you advising the outcome of your request. 
We welcome you to submit events for the upcoming 3 months. Please be advised that there may be delays due to increased demand, or over holiday periods. Once your event has been published no changes can be made.

Please note that events must be held in the next 12 months, be hosted within the CESPHN catchment, and be relevant to general practitioners, allied health professionals, practice nurses, practice managers or practice staff.

Central and Eastern Sydney PHN has full discretion to reject external event requests or cease the promotion of any external events on our website.

Deprescribing Psychotropics with Dr Mark Horowitz hosted by Northern Sydney PHN & Sydney North Health Network

Tuesday, 29 April 2025, 7.00pm – 8.30pm

The overuse of antidepressants and psychiatric medications is a growing concern for healthcare and regulatory bodies, including the NDIS Commission and the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care. Both the Disability and Aged Care Royal Commissions have called for efforts to reduce this overuse. Stopping these medications safely has been neglected in psychiatric teaching, leading to significant harm from severe and prolonged withdrawal effects. The Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines aim to address this gap. Withdrawal effects are more common and severe than previously recognized, with some people experiencing debilitating protracted withdrawal syndromes. These effects can be mistaken for a relapse or new condition, highlighting the need for better recognition and distinction.
