Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) is seeking experienced Visiting Medical Officers to join our team at Balmain Hospital!

We are looking for a Visiting Medical Officers (General Practitioners).  The primary purpose of the role of Visiting Medical Officers (General Practitioner) in General Practice Casualty is to provide high-quality diagnostic and consultative specialty services in General Practice Casualty (GPC) and to participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities within General Practice Casualty and Balmain Hospital as required. 
  
The Visiting Medical Officer (General Practitioner) in General Practice Casualty will provide high-level Urgent Care and services relevant to the General Practice Casualty at Balmain Hospital, including (but not limited to) diagnosis and early management of acute medical and surgical conditions, musculoskeletal injury and acute paediatrics, for inpatients and non-inpatients attending ambulatory clinics. As part of this role, they will supervise junior medical officers and work collaboratively with Medical, Nursing, Allied Health and Clerical Staff within the General Practice Casualty team, covering a seven-day clinical roster (including evening, weekend and on-call commitments) and ensuring that effective clinical handover occurs. 
  
The Visiting Medical Officer in General Practice Casualty will ensure a high standard of professional performance and encouragement of an academic environment that supports education, research and professional development. 

Medical practitioner, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Applicants must have Fellowship with Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) or Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) and/or other equivalent specialist recognition.

Positions are currently available. In addition, applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within two months from the beginning of the 2026 Clinical Year on 2 February 2026, may be considered.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Public Hospitals Visiting Medical Officer Determination.
