October is Liver Cancer Awareness Month, an opportunity for general practice teams to strengthen conversations about liver health, early detection and access to care.

Liver Foundation has developed resources to help GPs and practice nurses identify patients at risk, support appropriate surveillance and connect patients with specialist care.

These include patient information, translated campaign materials, and GP and nurse education hubs.

This year’s campaign also features Uncle Kerry Fox, a proud Biripi Walpari man and Stolen Generations survivor whose liver cancer was discovered unexpectedly during a scan.

His story encourages people to seek support without shame and provides a starting point for culturally safe conversations.

Patients and carers can access Liver Foundation’s free, confidential nurse-led Support Line on 1800 841 118, with interpreter support available. Health professionals can also refer patients online, with consent, for information and guidance alongside their clinical care.
