Data tells us that people born outside of Australia who do not speak English as a preferred language have lower levels of access to palliative care and fewer Advance Care Plans completed. This workshop aims to empower multicultural communities in the CESPHN region to improve their death literacy and enable people within multicultural communities to make more informed decisions about end-of-life and death care options.

The workshop will be run by Dr Kerrie Noonan founder of the Death Literacy Institute, and commissioned by CESPHN 

Workshop Goals:

• To normalise death, dying and grief as a part of life
• To reflect upon our own knowledge and actions, and learn where our strengths are and what we want to develop further
• To encourage death literacy in everyday life
• To learn from and share with each other
• Improve understanding of how and when to access palliative

CESPHN is looking for:  

• 3-4 people from individual multicultural communities in the CESPHN region 
• Participants working in or connected to primary health or community services 
• People willing to contribute ideas about what matters when it comes to death and dying in their multicultural communities

What you can expect 

• Interactive workshop facilitated by Dr Kerrie Noonan- founder of the Death Literacy Institute consisting of
  • Individual reflection, group discussion and education 
  • Brainstorming session- ‘How can we implement death and dying knowledge into our multicultural communities’  
• Lunch and refreshments will be provided 

Post workshop 

• CESPHN and the Death Literacy Institute will provide individual support and resources to help transfer this knowledge into respective organisations and communities
