Presenter: Polly Whitworth – Consultant, Dementia Centre, HammondCare

The way we communicate indicates how well we know the other person, value their individuality and understand their needs. This 3 hr session will support carers to understand how communication may be affected for a person living with dementia and how to use effective communication strategies tailored to the individual.

In this session participants will be able to:-

1. Explain how dementia and sensory impairments and changes may affect communication.

2. Identify barriers to communication (environment, cultural and language background, carer approach)

3. Identify how different communication styles may impact on how a client/resident/ patient feels and responds.

4. Explore effective strategies to facilitate positive communication with a client/resident/patient.

The same content will be presented at on Thursday 4 July, please register for ONE event only.
