Communication skills and approach to support people living with dementia for Registered Nurses

The way we communicate indicates how well we know the other person, value their individuality and understand their needs. This 3 hr session will support RN’s to understand how communication may be affected for a person living with dementia and how to plan communication strategies tailored to the individual.
In this session participants will be able to:-
1. Explain how dementia and sensory impairments and changes may affect communication.
2. Identify barriers to communication (environment, cultural and language background, carer approach)
3. Explore effective communication tools and strategies to facilitate positive communication with client/resident/patient.
4. Plan individualised communication strategies considering the client/resident/patient needs and choices.
