This session in partnership with Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Fertility and IVF Service and presented by Dr Cheryl Phua aims to summarise male and female fertility assessment in the general practice setting. It will explain fertility tests available to GPs in the initial visit, identify issues that warrant early referral to a fertility specialist, and address modifiable factors that GPs can investigate and treat prior to a fertility specialist referral. The session will also discuss preconception screening and when and who to offer it to.

Learning outcomes

• Conduct a fertility assessment of the couple, understanding what relevant tests to order and how to interpret them
• Discuss the importance of lifestyle factors in optimising natural fertility
• Manage reversible contributing factors such as hyperprolactinaemia, thyroid, diabetes and PCOS
• Apply appropriate investigations that should be performed for couples to identify red flags that may require early referral to a fertility specialist.

All ANSC GPs from across the region are welcome and will receive ANSC Points accordingly.
