This interactive, case‑based CPD session will cover urgent and evolving sexual health issues relevant to general practice. Topics include Doxy‑PEP, syphilis, gonorrhoea and antimicrobial resistance (including when to take culture), updated BV partner treatment guidance, and MPOX — is it still here?

Focused on real‑world cases and “What would you do next?” scenarios. this session is designed to be practical, engaging, and immediately applicable to GP practice.

Presented by: Dr Hillary McArthur and Dr David Baker

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Determine whether Doxycycline post‑exposure prophylaxis (Doxy‑PEP) should be considered, including how to weigh potential benefits against risks such as antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and adverse effects.
  2. Recognise the critical role of general practice in responding to syphilis, now classified as a Communicable Disease of National Significance, including an understanding of why this designation has been applied.
  3. Apply current recommendations for gonorrhoea testing, including (AMR) testing and culture in clinical practice.
  4. Describe recent changes to the management of bacterial vaginosis, particularly in relation to partner treatment, and apply these recommendations in a general practice setting.
  5. Update understanding of MPOX epidemiology in the Australian context, including current transmission patterns and populations most affected.

Target audience: GPs and practice nurses, and Pharmacists if this correlates with your areas of practice.
