Measles at the Door: Declining Immunisation Coverage, Global Outbreaks and the Risk to Australia

Explore the factors driving the global resurgence of measles, the risks posed to Australia, and the role of immunisation providers in strengthening community protection.

From Itinerary to Immunisation: A Practical Approach to Travel Vaccination

Gain practical guidance on conducting travel health assessments, recommending appropriate vaccinations, and supporting travellers to stay protected before, during and after their journeys.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Describe the epidemiology of measles, including recent global outbreaks, declining immunisation coverage trends, and the associated risks to Australia.
  2. Identify individuals and populations at increased risk of measles infection and implement evidence-based strategies to improve vaccination uptake and disease prevention.
  3. Apply current Australian immunisation recommendations to assess and manage measles risk in both routine and travel health settings.
  4. Conduct comprehensive travel health risk assessments and develop individualised vaccination plans based on destination, traveller characteristics and itinerary.
  5. Integrate best-practice travel immunisation advice and patient education strategies into clinical practice to support safe international travel and reduce the importation of vaccine-preventable diseases.
