Who are Forgotten Australians / Care Leavers? And What is the Real Care the Second Time Around Project about?
This webinar will outline why it is important to identify older people from a background of childhood trauma in ‘care’ and the care considerations to take into account for older people from a background of childhood trauma
Over 500,000 children spent their childhoods in Australian orphanages, children’s homes, foster care and other out-of-home ‘care’ as children in the last century. Approximately 440,000 were non-indigenous children; 50,000 children were from the Stolen Generations and up to 10,000 children were child migrants from Britain, Malta and Ireland. Now ageing, many of these people have significant barriers to accessing aged care as a result of past trauma.
