Join us for session one of this two part series on instrument reprocessing.
Sterilisation and decontamination of instruments and medical devices plays a very important role in prevention of HAI healthcare associated infections. This is a must do education session for practice staff.

Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify how they can make this a safer process for themselves and others
- Participants will be educated in reprocessing through demonstration
- Participants will be able to show others in turn and use checklists provided for ongoing improvement
- Participants will get an insight into the likely future of reprocessing in office based practice
This is a 2 part series – to gain a certificate of attendance you must attend both sessions. By registering for the first session, you will automatically be registered for the 2nd session.
Session 1 – Tuesday 11 October 7-8pm:
Topics covered:
- Spaulding classification for the level of processing required according to procedure
- Requirements for the reprocessing environment
- Workflow and materials required inc PPE
- Actions to take Immediately after use of an item in treatment area
- Safe transfer to the reprocessing area and delayed cleaning
- Use of an ultrasonic cleaner if present
- Preparation for cleaning
- Scrubbing and rinsing, draining while completing cleaning
- Cleaning the splash areas and removing PPE
- Drying items and correctly storing if not proceeding to sterilisation immediately
Session 2 – Tuesday 18 October 7-8pm:
Topics covered:
- Packaging items
- Sealing and labelling items
- Loading and recording load
- Sterilisation
- Unloading and cooling the load
- Monitoring and record keeping
- Correct storage (no use by dates), tracking
- Cleaning of the steriliser
- A brief overview of validation
