Psychologists, mental health social workers and counsellors often receive disclosures about domestic and family violence from clients. Supporting these clients is about safety. This session will cover how to work with clients to keep safety, both internal and external, at the centre of trauma specific counselling.

Learning outcomes:

• assess and plan a work environment that prioritises safety for their clients and themselves 
• understand and be able to work with the challenges facing women impacted by domestic violence
• work in partnership with women assisting them to recognise and build on their strengths
• advocate with women to support their daily resistance to abuse
• develop confidence in providing women with the appropriate interventions and be able to make referrals as required.
