The Covid-19 Pandemic is affecting us all in many ways, with particular impact on how we are delivering medical and health care to our patients. Specific populations at increased risk, for example the elderly, have been identified for additional public health and other protective measures. This may include more extensive isolation from family and friends.
However, the needs of people with intellectual disability haven’t to date been as clearly identified as a vulnerable group.
People with intellectual disability have higher rates of premature mortality and comorbidities. This seminar will identify what factors contribute to their increased risk during Covid 19 pandemic and practical ways GPs and other primary health care providers can support their care, keep them healthy and more effectively treat them if they become unwell during the pandemic.
Dr Jacqueline Small Developmental Paediatrician and Clinical Lead, Specialised Team for Intellectual Disability Sydney (STRIDES) and Ms Merryn John, Program Manager South Eastern Sydney Specialised for Intellectual Disability Health Team.
Target audience: GPs and health professionals practicing within the CESPHN region.
