This is the first of two seminars hosted by CESPHN for our mental health commissioned service providers.

There is growing recognition of the unique needs of autistic people attending mental health services. This talk will provide foundational skills for the mental health workforce to better support the unique needs of autistic people attending mental health services.

Learning Outcomes

• Understanding the history and current-day controversies in the diagnosis of autism
• Understanding current-day diagnostic procedures and criteria associated with DSM-5.
• Discussion of common support pathways, as well as recognition of the challenges and barriers to care.
• Knowledge of some of the unique mental health challenges that autistic people experience and their relevance to current mental health practices.
