Medicare Urgent Care Clinics

Medicare Urgent Care Clinics (UCCs) provide free, bulk‑billed, GP‑led care for urgent but non‑life‑threatening conditions. No appointment or referral is needed; patients can walk in and wait to be seen.

UCCs are staffed by highly trained medical professionals, and provide culturally safe, equitable and accessible care to all people, including vulnerable and young people.

Not sure if your care is urgent? Call the Healthdirect helpline on 1800 022 222.

What does urgent care treat?

Urgent care provides acute episodic care and treatment that includes:

  • minor infections
  • minor fractures, sprains, sports injuries and neck and back pain
  • urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • minor cuts
  • insect bites and rashes
  • minor eye and ear problems
  • respiratory illness
  • gastroenteritis
  • mild burns
What does urgent care NOT treat?

Urgent care does not treat a life-threatening injury or illness. Please do not attend urgent care. Call triple zero (000) or go to your nearest emergency department.

Urgent care does not replace health and medical services that are managed by a GP, such as chronic disease management, preventative health care, vaccinations, prescriptions, mental health advice, family planning advice, referrals for tests, scans, or specialist care.
