FIVE QUESTIONS is where we ask members of the community to talk about how they stay HEALTHY. This week we spoke to Paddington Doctors’ practice nurse and data specialist Sarah Hannigan who shared this:.
Lunch: lentil salad with chicken then berries with yogurt
Afternoon snack: an apple
Dinner: lasagna, salad and a slice of garlic bread
2. What exercise did you do yesterday?
I walk my pup early every morning for at least 30 mins in the park and I walked to and from work, up and down hills, which takes approx. 25 mins each way.
3. When did you last see a primary health professional?
Last month, for a blood test. I regularly donate blood and was told last time that I was anaemic so I wanted to check up on this.
4. What do you do for your mental health?
The most important thing I do for my mental health is eat a healthy diet rich in fibre. I aim for 30 different plants per week this includes veggies, fruits, legumes, herbs and spices. I understand the close relationship between the gut and the brain and the impact diet can have on our mental as well as physical health. I know that what I eat today will impact my mood tomorrow so I try to make good choices for the main part. At Paddington Doctors we have been encouraging Micobiome testing in order to identify which food groups may enhance our health by improving our immunity, reducing inflammation and promoting the production of serotonin. Microbiome testing is a great way to kick start positive changes to our health.
5. What are your health goals for the next month?
My health goals for the next month include aiming for 10K steps daily and having four alcohol free nights per week.
