In NSW, FluMist nasal spray influenza vaccine is free for children aged 2, 3 or 4 years old as part of the NSW Nasal Spray Influenza Vaccination Program.
The FluMist nasal spray will only be available until June 2026.
Clinicians should strongly encourage FluMist vaccination for all eligible children. Influenza can cause serious illness in children aged under 5 and is a significant cause of hospitalisation in this group.

A recent update to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) means that vaccination providers can now download a list of children who are due for influenza vaccination.

The NSW Free Flu Vaccine Checker is a simple way to check if someone is eligible for a funded flu vaccine in NSW.
Flu vaccination is recommended for everyone over 6 months of age each year.
However, it can be tricky to navigate the criteria for funded flu vaccine, particularly the list of eligible medical risk conditions.
This tool guides users through eligibility based on the National Immunisation Program and NSW Health policies.
This tool is designed for the general public, but clinicians may also find it useful to check eligibility for their patients.
Order poster
A poster is available to display in waiting rooms and other patient areas. Order a laminated poster for your practice or pharmacy.
An updated version of the National Guidelines for Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres and Providers was published in April 2026. These guidelines set out the procedure and requirements to become an approved yellow fever vaccination centre.
Updates include providing clearer advice on traveller requirements when entering Australia from yellow fever risk areas, and clarifying vaccination certification requirements, including the continued recognition of lifetime validity for yellow fever vaccination certificates, and updated processes for issuing and replacing them.
NSW Health is advising people in the Sutherland Shire to be alert for signs and symptoms of measles after being notified of a confirmed case from a returned traveller.
A list of potential exposure locations can be found on the NSW Health website.
There is currently an increased risk of measles in NSW, with 47 cases confirmed since 1 January 2026.
Free measles vaccine for adults
In NSW, 2 doses of MMR vaccine is available free of charge for adults born during or after 1966 who are unvaccinated or under-vaccinated against measles.
See NSW-funded additional free vaccines.
Providers should check measles vaccination history for all people aged in their early 30s to late 50s, particularly if they are travelling. If no vaccination history is available, serology testing is not required and repeating MMR vaccination in people previously immune or vaccinated is safe.
