Two confirmed cases of Nipah virus infection have been reported in West Bengal, India. Nipah virus has never been detected in Australia, and the Australian Government is monitoring the situation.

Australians travelling to areas where Nipah virus has been found are advised to take steps to protect themselves.

Nipah virus case reporting and surveillance can be found here.

The Australian Centre for Disease Control (CDC) have recently published a report on Invasive Meningococcal Disease (IMD) data in 2025. Notably, the predominance of N. meningitidis serogroup B (MenB) IMD continued in 2025, accounting for 82% of notifications (45/55), higher than reported in quarter 1 2025 (72%).

Meningococcal B vaccination is funded in NSW for:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged <2 years
  • people aged ≥2 months with certain medical conditions that increase their risk of invasive meningococcal disease.

NSW Health is advising people to be alert for signs and symptoms of measles after another two new cases were confirmed in Sydney.

A list of potential exposure locations can be found on the NSW Health website. People who visited the listed locations should watch for symptoms and seek medical advice if symptoms occur.

Anybody born during or after 1966 who has not had two doses of a measles containing vaccine, or with an uncertain measles vaccination history, can receive a free, NSW-Health funded vaccine.
