Additional doses of FluMist available to order from Monday 22 June

NSW Health has access to additional doses of FluMist with a limited expiry date of 16 July 2026 to continue to offer to children aged 2 to 17 years.

FluMist can now be ordered again through the State Vaccine Centre for a limited time.

Even if you have already provided advice to your local public health unit on additional doses required in the past few days, please order these doses using the influenza vaccine ordering form.

Given the short shelf life, providers are requested to only order enough doses to meet anticipated demand and to support equitable distribution and minimise vaccine wastage.

Measles alert for Potts Point, Darlinghurst and Sydney CBD

NSW Health is advising people in Potts Point, Darlinghurst, and the Sydney CBD to be alert for signs and symptoms of measles after being notified of a confirmed case of a  backpacker staying at Original Backpackers Hostel, Victoria Street, Potts Point.

The infection is assessed to have been acquired in South-East Asia prior to arrival in Australia, where there are ongoing outbreaks of measles.

During the infectious period, the individual visited multiple locations within Potts Point, Darlinghurst and Sydney CBD including:

  • St Vincent’s Emergency Department
  • Terry White Chemmart Kings Cross

Clinicians in these areas should have a high index of suspicion for measles in unwell backpackers up to 8 July.

South Eastern Sydney Public Health Unit is offering measles-containing vaccine for free to all hostel guests without two documented doses of measles vaccine. Contact the PHU to arrange vaccination for susceptible backpackers without financial means.

Measles vaccine is free in NSW for anyone born after 1965 who hasn’t already had two doses.

Consider displaying posters to raise awareness of measles risk.

New pneumococcal vaccine – Capvaxive – coming 1 July 2026

From 1 July 2026, Capvaxive will replace Prevenar 13 and Pneumovax 23 on the NIP for adults. Capvaxive is recommended and free through the NIP for:

  • Adults aged 65 years and over
  • Aboriginal adults aged 25 years and over
  • Adults aged 18 years and over with specified medical conditions.

Stocks of Prevenar 13 and Pneumovax 23 vaccines at the State Vaccine Centre have been exhausted. Please ensure that you do not use Prevenar 13 or Pneumovax 23 beyond 30 June 2026. Any stocks of these vaccines held in provider fridges after this date should be destroyed and reported in the State Vaccine Centre system as an expired vaccine with 30 June 2026 as the expiry date.

Appointments for pneumococcal vaccination of eligible patients should be scheduled from 1 July 2026. More information on Capvaxive and resources, including an updated NSW Immunisation Schedule, will be provided soon.
