Update to requirements for affiliation with the RHW GP ANSC program

The requirements for affiliation with the RHW GP ANSC program have changed. Any GP who applies to become affiliated with the RHW GP ANSC Program from 1st of April must demonstrate their completion of the RACGP First Trimester Screening module available through RACGP eLearning.

Any ANSC GPs who are currently affiliated with the RHW GP ANSC Program are encouraged to complete the RACGP First Trimester Screening module, which can be counted as ANSC CPD for this triennium.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this change, or would like assistance accessing the module, please contact ansc@cesphn.com.au

Important update for GPs: Hyperglycaemia in Pregnancy Screening Pathway

View the new pathway

Referral pathways: RHW antenatal service

When referring patients for ANSC, women are typically allocated to:

  • Dr Louise Fay
  • Dr Stephen Coogan
  • Dr Sara Ooi

Midwifery Group Practice (MGP)

If a patient prefers MGP and capacity is available, please continue to refer to an ANSC obstetrician.

Once the referral is received, RHW will allocate an appropriate MGP obstetrician internally.

GPs can now send electronic referrals directly to RHW antenatal and perinatal mental health.

Clinical Business Rules (CBRs) – RHW guidance for GPs

ANSC General Practitioners (GPs) are required to utilise and adhere to the Royal Hospital for Women (RHW) Clinical Business Rules (CBRs) to ensure safe patient care and evidence-based clinical decision-making.

Access all the RHW CBR’s: Royal Hospital for Women Policies | South Eastern Sydney Local Health District

A handy, evidence-based antenatal care resource for GPs

The Australian Pregnancy Care Guidelines are a nationally endorsed set of evidence-based recommendations for pregnancy care in Australia.

Australian Pregnancy Care Guidelines

Low‑dose aspirin in pregnancy

Low‑dose aspirin (150 mg daily from 12–36 weeks) is recommended for pregnant patients at increased risk of hypertensive disorders, pre‑eclampsia, preterm birth, or fetal growth restriction. Key indications include prior hypertension in pregnancy, chronic kidney disease, autoimmune disease, diabetes, chronic hypertension, or a history of fetal growth restriction. It may also be appropriate when two moderate‑risk factors are present, such as first pregnancy, age ≥40, BMI ≥35, long inter‑pregnancy interval, family history of pre‑eclampsia, or multiple pregnancy. Low‑dose aspirin is considered safe in pregnancy with no evidence of increased bleeding. Read the factsheet
