South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is further expanding Electronic Referrals as the Preferred Referral Method into Outpatient Services
SESLHD is pleased to announce that we are now in the final stages of completing the Electronic Referrals (eReferrals) rollout across South Eastern Sydney Local Health District.
We are committed to improving the safety, efficiency, and timeliness of managing patient referrals as we transition away from paper- based referral pathways.
With this upcoming implementation there will be a notable change to how patients refer into Antenatal services across SESLHD. Patients will now require a GP referral for Antenatal care; patients will no longer be able to self-refer to a facility. Flexibility will be applied in certain circumstances, particularly around gestation or clinical considerations for patients who require timely access.
As part of this commitment, all Practitioners with Healthlink access are now strongly encouraged to submit referrals via the Healthlink platform electronically when referring to Outpatient services across SESLHD.
Although the services listed below will be onboarded from the dates indicated, 115 services are already live and accepting eReferrals across SESLHD.

eReferrals are electronic forms submitted through your practice software via HealthLink or via MyHealthLink portal.
All referrals will now be processed through the Electronic Referral Management System (eRMS), which offers a more streamlined, efficient, and secure way to manage referrals across services.
Benefits of Electronic referrals
Referrals are sent, received, and managed electronically. Sending an eReferral instead of a paper or faxed referral has multiple benefits for referrers, including:
eReferrals can be accessed directly from HealthLink Portal (using the same process for Drivers License Assessments)
Clinical information can be easily attached.
Clear transparency from current list of services offered across SESLHD and clinicians.
Referrals are sent quickly and securely.
Two-way communication between referrers and hospital services enables additional information to be provided more efficiently and in timely manner.
Referrers are notified via secure message of referral receipt, outcome, and triage category.
