Primary Integrated Care Supports (PICS) Program

Since 2017, the Primary Integrated Care Supports (PICS) program delivered integrated, recovery-oriented clinical mental health care and coordination for people experiencing severe mental illness within a primary care setting. Delivered by mental health nurses and peer workers, the program provided evidence-based interventions, care coordination, and linkages to psychosocial supports, complementing existing GP, psychiatry, and allied mental health services.

From 1 July 2026, PICS supports have transitioned into the Help aHead integrated mental health hubs, with its core elements of clinical care, coordination, and peer supports continuing within the new model. This will support continuity of care while strengthening access to coordinated, wraparound services and more connected pathways across primary care and community supports. Help aHead will deliver multidisciplinary clinical and non-clinical supports across stepped care levels 2 through 4 to adults experiencing mental health challenges in the CESPHN region.
