Growing Resilience

GROW Australia is providing the Growing Resilience program in the CESPHN region as part of the Commonwealth Psychosocial Support (CPS) Program.

The CPS program provides psychosocial support services to assist people with severe mental illness and reduced psychosocial functional capacity who are not receiving psychosocial supports through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Growing Resilience is a free 6-week peer-to-peer program which helps people improve their mental health and build resilience. The program helps to combat social isolation, improve relationships with family and friends, and improve daily life coping skills through guided group sessions with a trained peer program worker.

Topics explored include:

  • Live in the now and hope for the future
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Exercise as mental health ‘medicine’
  • Managing loss and gaining perspective
  • Managing feelings during stressful times
  • Managing healthy relationships

Growing Resilience is available to people who:

  • Experience severe mental illness (diagnosis not required);
  • Have an associated level of reduced psychosocial functional capacity;
  • Live, work, or study in the CESPHN region;
  • Are not assisted by the NDIS; and
  • Are not receiving any other psychosocial support services that duplicate those provided through CPSP.

Growing Resilience accepts self-referrals, as well as referrals from GPs, Allied Health, CMOs, LHDs, and LACs.
